How to Keep your New Year’s Resolution

I read a startling statistic today. Only 8% of people successfully keep their New Year’s Resolutions, according to a study in the Journal of Clinical Psychology.

These are terrible odds.

Want to improve your chances of success? Hire a coach.

Clients come to me for coaching with a Universal Request. This request consists of three parts:

  1. I want to bring something into my life (an experience, an achievement, a relationship, a feeling).

  2. However, I’m not sure how to make this happen.

  3. Can you help me?

This is exactly what coaching is designed to do.

Why do so few of us succeed on our own? Consider the accountability problem. After a week or two (or three), we slide back into old habits. It requires energy and focus to create change. We are managing complicated lives. We grow tired and distracted.

Most people won’t notice our lack of progress. If they do, our friends will often help us make excuses about why we are stuck. “You are doing the best you can…”

Your coach WILL notice what is going on and she will hold you accountable. Together you’ll come up with strategies to stay on course, and hit important milestones. You’ll look at the excuses in the light of day and you’ll consider new possibilities. You will make progress.

Working with a coach requires some courage. When you dedicate yourself to something over time, your life will change.

What change are you willing to make in 2018? Let’s get to it!

Happy New Year!

Cheryl
